There is no way to remove the observer from our perceptions of the world. This fascinates me. I approach my projects as an ethnographer -working as a "participant-observer" -documenting my engagements and inquiries.
In my work, I am looking at the relationships between settings and behaviors by exploring spaces that are marginal, vague and transitory. Spaces where the ordinary norms of everyday life get suspended or subverted. Themes of instability or dislocation invigorate me because of what can be learned at this juncture.
For me, these 'in-between' places can be uncomfortable, alluring and dangerous. This is where I aim my camera.
